I was recently chatting with a friend about standing on one leg (as you do) as part of my tai chi practice, and how this seemingly simple exercise is apparently great for overall well-being.
If you’ve never tried this, let me reassure you: it is both deeply meditative and mildly ridiculous. You begin with noble intentions, posture aligned, breath calm, spirit centred, and within seconds, you’re negotiating with your own ankle like, “Okay, but what if we just… didn’t collapse right now?”
Somewhere in the middle of one of these heroic balancing acts (read: near collapse), my brain decided this experience needed representation in one of my illustrations.
The goat was an easy choice. They stand on ledges the width of a pencil and somehow look smug about it. A frog, though, isn’t known for its ability to stand on one leg. I think in reality, the frog would last approximately half a second before it remembers it has springs for legs and immediately abandons the plan.
Which, if I’m being honest, felt a little closer to my own experience.
All the best,
Nikki
